learn how to create amazing tapestry mosaics
Tapestry mosaic, a term coined by artist Laurel Skye, uses beads, glass and found objects to create a beautiful solid surface of interwoven color and pattern. It is a non-grouted or embedded mosaic. In these classes you will learn different ways to use beads and to explore incorporating found objects while mixing them with standard mosaic materials such as glass tile. We cover what materials can be used, different adhesives, application of tesserae and ways to finish pieces so they have a polished look. Thinking of broken jewelry, seed beads, fused glass, polymer clay and ceramic pieces, the ideas are endless. Four different classes are offered as follows!
NEW WORKSHOP: Create a Mosaic Heart
|
Use bright colored tiles, ball chain and fun focal points to create a heart on a rock. Give it to your Valentine or keep it for yourself. It can go inside or out. Draw your own heart and create your own design. This project takes “rock art” to a whole new level. Students learn all about creating mosaics for outside and grouted mosaic techniques. In class we complete the mosaic and after a grouting demonstration, students take their rock home to grout. All supplies provided.

3" x 12" Tapestry Mosaic Panel Workshop
|
Raid your button box, explore your bead collection, look through your broken jewelry for materials to bring to class. For this class the students will provide much of the material they use. This is a two-session class. Day 1 is for basic layout, prepping the panel and getting the boarder done. Day 2 is fine-tuning your design and adhering your tesserae to complete a stunning mosaic. The sessions are a week apart so students can find the perfect pieces for their creations and can explore design ideas without the pressure of needing to finish. Complete instructions on the materials that students need to finish the project are provided after registration. Students will need to have most of their materials by the first day of class.

Beaded Saguaro Cactus Workshop

Create a beautiful, beaded cactus using tapestry mosaic techniques. For this class, we will use an 8” wooden cutout cactus, strung seed beads plus other beads and charms to add visual interest and create a focal point. Once you have mastered this technique you can cover other shapes to create fun art projects. Everything you need will be provided to make a green cactus with a charm and beads. For a multicolored cactus, bring your own seed beads. Orange, purple, yellow or turquoise work well, and additional beads for texture. More specific instructions will be provided about a week before class.
